For a second year in a row arts and culture institutions in Sault Ste. Marie have gotten together to plan a day long event that celebrates CULTURE in every way. It’s Culture Days!
Participating organizations are the Art Gallery of Algoma, Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District, Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Northern Lights, Sault Community Career Centre and Sault Ste. Marie Public Library. Activities include fall flower arranging and print making workshops at the AGA, coffee tasting at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, a laser light show by Northern Lights in the evening and a multicultural art fair at the Public Library organized in conjunction with the Sault Community Career Centre.
For a relatively small city of approximately 75,000 people, Sault Ste. Marie is never short on cultural events. The city has a number of successful theater groups, an expanding art gallery, a busy public library with three branches, two historical museums, a symphony, several local bands, an art centered high school and a regional arts council. Needless to say there is always somethings arts and culture related to do, but finding out about these events before they happen and prioritizing which of them you want to attend is the tricky part.
To make things easy, and to appeal to the City at large, Culture Day organizers have planned to offer all of their activities on the same day and within a few blocks of each other. Events will take place between the Public Library 50 East St., the Art Gallery of Algoma 10 East St., and the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre 50 Pim St. Thank goodness for short city blocks and a cultural corridor that is centrally located.
